NO NIIN is and independent online monthly magazine that serves as a critical locus for discourse and provoke difficult conversations.
For Issue 18 (August 2023), I worked with researcher and essayist Sinthujan Varatharajah to develop the accompanying illustration to their essay entitled “The Innocence of (European) Instruments.”
The essay explores how European modes of living and cultures have become globalised and naturalised, specifically interrogating why and how European instruments and music have become a global commodity. Through the illustration, I sought to expose the sinister colonial nature and relationship of European cultural production outside of Europe.
